What's that in the mirror behind?

Can't wait, trimming finished during next week. Then it's bonnet on and then some country lane "trials" around the Peninsula, given the rain is forecast to stop by then.

Colour

The colour is BMW'S new Mini's Mellow Yellow. There is a Beemer code, but it has "leaked" from my shrinking brain. The SS mesh grill is from Daytona Sportscars. Interestering to find-out how long before Mr Plod chips me on the positioning of the front number-plate, although the Dromana Plod Shop is next door to my Motor Trimer and 2 of them looked over the car from top to bottom yesterday and were full of compliments,. You can never tell!!

FIRST RIDE, THE CLUBBIE SMILE!

The very first ride, the engine fired up first turn of the the key with my std Toyo ECU (true). The driver is my Machinist (I'm grounded due to high doses of Morphine because of Bone Cancer which I've had since May 2005, but I've done most of the work on the car up until late 2007 when I've had to call for help with assembly, machining, brakes, plumbing and electrics. Just now this extends to painting and trimming. My docs still don't believe it as they gave me until May last year. See, proves these Clubbies are really good for you and your health!!!

The std Toyo Corolla 1zzfe (with chopped sump) clocked 6800 rpm in 3rd before the factory limiter cut in. Hard to judge speed as there was so much happening!!!!!!!!! Guess around 85/90 kph. Bit worried about the guy hiding behind the AUSSIE POST box on such a busy street though.

Quite a bit of stuff left over from the build that might be of interest to others including a Nissan SKYLINE Rear Axle with BWarner LSD center (as used by Holden) 4:1 ratio, all fully reconditioned with all new bearings and seals C/W calipers and HD axles. I'll make a list to add to the Blog in the next week or so as the shed cleaning progresses. Watch this space.

ALMOST THERE.

At the Autolec 2 weeks ago, since then then thru the painters.Today the car is at the Trimmers and I hope to have it home over this weekend as a finished job and very little left in the bank (colour is BMW'S new Mini Mellow Yellow, sort of suits my vintage and the car).

MX5 DIFF MODS

Using a Madza MX5 Diff with LSD, 4:1 ratio. The main mod is to incorporate a substantial bracket off the side of the diff housing to take a "torque" tube with rod end adjuster to the rear bulkhead to limit kick-up or rotation. More pics later on the set-up in the frame.

Painting

First step, get it out of the shed! The contents of the wine barrels in the trailer on the right a in the top pic are for "afters".

Step two, order up some fine weather, no wind, sunshine, 24deg. In other words, the usual Mornington Peninsula conditions. Coat one of the Graphite Grey going on over the 2-pack primer.

Pre-painting 2

Essential to make a pair of Rotators to make handling the frame easier for painting and panel work. I made mine with steering castors at one end only, better with both ends steering for a tight space.
